Public Safety

  • Increase the number of police officers patrolling the community
  • Implement proactive policing strategies to prevent crime before it occurs
  • Enforce the public nuisance law more aggressively to discourage criminal behavior
  • Create a recruitment incentive program to attract highly qualified public safety personnel
  • Establish a Mental Health Court to address mental health issues in the justice system effectively
  • Collaborate with the district attorney’s office to expedite court proceedings for swift justice
  • Expand the use of pole cameras for surveillance of public areas
  • Enhance lighting in poorly lit areas to discourage criminal activity
  • Develop an emergency notification system using SMS text messages to alert citizens of potential dangers immediately.

Neighborhood Revitalization

  • Invest in and enhance the appearance of ALL neighborhoods
  • Ensure that the Codes office is adequately staffed to enforce codes effectively
  • Hold all absentee landlords accountable, regardless of their location
  • Create a Residential Rehabilitation Incentive Program to promote investment.
  • Reduce blight and enhance public safety by working with the Common Council to re-establish Neighborhood Watch Groups
  • Build stronger relationships between law enforcement, code enforcement and residents in the community.
  • City-owned properties will be maintained, mowed, and free from garbage and graffiti.
  • Collaboration with community service organizations to effectively address concerns related to homelessness, mental health, and other community issues.

Community & Economic Development

  • Work with MV EDGE and RIDC for continued growth and economic development at Griffiss
  • Update the City’s Comprehensive Master Plan to ensure that plans and projects are in place to pursue grant funding
  • Develop a comprehensive small business development and retention strategy
  • Pursue middle-class and senior housing development
  • Waterfront development beyond Bellamy Harbor Park
  • Host Fireworks on the 4th of July
  • Prioritize improvements to the City’s Gateway Entrances to welcome residents and visitors
  • Workplace Wednesdays small business visits to engage with local businesses and their employees
  • Dedicate a Small Business Specialist to assist new and existing businesses

Parks & Recreation

  • Capitalize on the opportunity to generate new revenue with a multipurpose indoor field house in the City
  • Enhance and modernize the City’s recreational facilities and programs
  • Engage the community in the development of a long-term parks master plan for all city parks
  • Improvements to the City’s Bark Park
  • Identify new recreation opportunities for the entire community
  • Rebuild the City’s Recreation Department to maximize public/private collaborations
  • Re-establish a strong relationship with the Rome City School District

Government Efficiency & Transparency

  • Welcome the public back into City Hall
  • Establish an online platform to effectively reach out to the community
  • Increase public accessibility to information and services provided by City Hall
  • Enhance the quality of municipal services such as refuse/recycling collection, green waste collection, sidewalk maintenance, etc. by reviewing and implementing best practices
  • Evaluate all City services to ensure optimal performance and efficiency
  • Instill a culture of accountability where every member of the organization is aware of their responsibilities
  • Review current application and permit processes with the objective of streamlining and saving time and money
  • Ensure that our workforce is well-trained and properly equipped to operate more efficiently

Communication & Technology

  • “Lanigan Listens” is a series of town hall meetings designed to enhance transparency, collaboration, and teamwork between the local government and its citizens.
  • Monthly department head meetings will take place, and reports will be presented to the Common Council, further promoting transparency and collaboration.
  • Evening Board of Estimate and Contract meetings will be held, allowing for increased public access to government and transparency in spending.
  • Every correspondence with the Mayor’s Office or City Department will receive prompt attention and a reply.
  • The government will adopt a “21st Century” approach, making full use of technology.
  • The City’s website will be revamped to engage the community in the most pressing issues and provide responsive constituent services.  Moreover, it will provide easier access to services that can be completed online, such as FOIL requests, registrations, and permits, will be provided for utmost convenience.
