Jeff Lanigan is the Change Rome Needs

The Time is Now

Now is the time for change.  It’s time for strong leadership, time to work collaboratively with the Common Council, time to forge new public/private partnerships and strengthen existing ones, time for listening, time for inclusion, and most of all it’s time for new energy and excitement to move this City forward.

My Mission

My passion and desire to continue serving the community I love as Mayor has never been greater. I am committed to not only identifying the issues but to bringing necessary change and creative solutions. My mission is to ensure that Rome is a better place for EVERYONE to live, work, play, and raise our families.

Jeff Lanigan is a New Generation of Leadership

"I’ve always been the type to roll up my sleeves and to contribute where I can help to make a difference. Like most cities in America, the City of Rome is facing significant challenges and it will take strong leadership and vision to keep us on a forward path. I was once told, “Courage is Contagious," which couldn’t be a truer statement. We are not a community of ONE but a community of MANY. When you give people something and someone to believe in and depend on, they will begin to standup. Let me be that someone for this community."

Family

Jeff, Melissa and Connor

Husband and Father

As a husband, father, and active member of this community I consider myself to be very fortunate to have been born and raised in Rome and educated in Rome Public Schools.  I was extremely proud to have served this great community as a law enforcement officer with one of the best police departments in the state, if not the country.

Public Servant

I had the absolute pleasure of serving the Rome community as a member of the Rome Police Department recently retiring as a Detective in 2022.    From 2018-2022 I served as President of the Rome Police Benevolent Association.  I was extremely proud to have served this great community as a law enforcement officer with one of the best police departments in the state, if not the country.

Decorated Officer

New York State Senate Liberty Medal Recipient (2019)

LEADER

PBA President 2018 – 2022

In 2018, I took on the role as the President of the Phillip S. McDonald Police Benevolent Association. This was during a time when morale at the police department was at an all time low, and we had seen an unprecedented exodus of 17 patrol officers leaving the department due to a hostile relationship between the administration and the patrol division. After leading the arbitration on several issues, the union was able to prove several areas of misconduct by the administration, including, for the first time in New York State, the presence of a ticket quota system.  I continued this role until my retirement in 2022.

What others are saying

I worked with Jeff for several years when he was a member of the Community Impact Unit for the Rome Police Department.  He was an excellent public servant and an even better human being  He will be an amazing Mayor and is just what the 3rd Ward and the City of Rome needs!

Kim Rogers

I’ve had the honor of serving local government in various roles over the last 20+ years.  I’ve worked with Mayors, Councilors/Commissioners from both sides of the aisle in efforts to effectively lead those organizations.  Having known Jeff personally and professionally for all of my career I am confident in his abilities to successfully lead the City of Rome.  I believe in him, because he believes in all of Rome.
