Lanigan Comments on Election Win
Rome, NY – Republican challenger Jeffrey Lanigan is the City of Rome Mayoral race winner, defeating two-term incumbent Mayor Jacqueline Izzo. Following his Republican Primary Election win, Lanigan ran on the Republican and an independent Right for Rome ballot lines, while Izzo was on the Conservative line. The Oneida County Board of Elections reports that Lanigan has received 415 more votes than Izzo. With only 171 outstanding absentee ballots remaining, Lanigan has a substantial lead that is insurmountable.
When asked about the win, Lanigan said, “I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the Rome community for welcoming me into your lives and homes for the past nine months. During this time, I had the opportunity to meet incredible people, and I will always cherish the relationships we formed. I must also recognize the sacrifices made by my wife, Melissa, and son, Connor, and my family’s unwavering support. They understood and accepted the level of commitment required for the position, and I am grateful for their love and support. I want to thank “Team Lanigan” campaign volunteers, friends, and supporters for their dedicated efforts. Collaboration and teamwork were instrumental in our success.
I would also like to acknowledge Ms. Izzo for eight years of public service, and I wish her well in her future endeavors. In the days ahead, I will contact her administration to ensure a seamless leadership transition. Throughout the campaign, we identified the city’s shortcomings and proposed ideas to address the community’s needs and concerns. A top priority of the campaign was to involve and engage the community, as well as to bring transparency and responsiveness to City Hall. These goals will continue to be strongly emphasized to improve the governance of the city and the well-being of its residents. I look forward to a smooth and respectful handover of responsibilities from the outgoing administration.
I am both humbled and honored to have been elected by the people as the 44th Mayor of Rome to serve as your mayor. My administration is excited to continue projects that are ongoing as well as introduce new ideas and energy to move the City of Rome forward. Once again, I want to express my gratitude for this opportunity.
